Toyota is the largest automaker in the world and is widely considered to be the most dependable and cost-effective brands of vehicles.  It is a Japanese-based company that was founded in 1936 by Kiichiro Toyoda. Throughout its history, Toyota has impacted the auto industry in many important ways. Since the very beginning, Toyota has maintained a focus on providing the motoring public with economical vehicles that are built to last.  They have achieved this largely due to their Kaisen philosophy, which embodies improvement.  It encourages all employees across all departments to improve efficiency and quality using the scientific method. The rest of the world’s automakers have eventually had to improve their own products and methodology as a reaction to Toyota’s long-lasting and quality vehicles.

Toyota expanded to the US automobile market in 1957 where they led huge shifts amongst consumers toward smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles. Largely because of Toyota’s presence and success in the US auto market, an array of other car makers from Japan and other Asian countries began exporting their vehicles to America. While Toyota does offer some higher end models, most of their vehicles are very competitively priced. With three current and fuel-efficient cars priced under $19,000, Toyota is increasingly becoming the automobile brand of choice for many cost-concious consumers.

Toyota has fully embraced the concept of hybrid automobiles and is an industry leader in the manufacturing of hybrid cars and SUVs. The Prius is highly popular with drivers around the world and Toyota is continuing to expand its lineup of hybrid/electric vehicles each year.

Even though Toyota experienced some design and mechanical glitches which led to large scale consumer recalls in the early 2000s, the company never lost its stride and has maintained strong customer loyalty.
