The Renault brothers sold their first car in 1898. Due to their participation in early automobile races, they quickly gained a reputation for innovation. During the company’s early years, automobiles were a luxury item that most French citizens couldn’t afford. Because of this, Renault instituted assembly lines and scientific management processes that improved efficiency and productivity.

The company’s heritage of innovation has continued throughout the years. Renault’s Espase model was Europe’s first multi-purpose vehicle. The Mégane was the first car to ever receive a four star EuroNCAP crash safety rating. Renault has continued to build on this reputation for safety. The automobile manufacturer has the largest selection of models that have achieved EuroNCAP’s highest five star rating. In the new century, Renault garnered another reputation for distinctive, bold designs. Their second generation Laguna and Mégane models featured these new highly successful designs. The 2000 model year Laguna was the first European family vehicle to feature both a keyless entry and ignition systems. In 2010, the company will supply Mercedes-Benz with Renault’s new 1.6L turbo diesel engine. In recognition of its accomplishments, Renault has won six European Car of Year Awards.

Renault is committed to the environment and has introduced eco-friendly variations of the company’s line up ranging from the Twingo city car to the Fluence executive class vehicles. This dedication was recognized with the Environment Award at the 2008 Fleet World Honors. These awards, innovative technology and modern stylish designs, enable Renault to continually top the French car sales charts.
