Ferdinand Porsche launched his engineering shop in 1931 after years of automotive experience working for Daimler Motors. Porsche developed a strong working relationship with Volkswagen and was instrumental in the design of the VW Beetle. This is the reason that the chassis of many of his early vehicles were inspired by the VW design.
The 1950s were breakout years for Porsche with the introduction of two iconic sports cars, the 356 Speedster and the 550 Spyder. In the 1960s, the Speedster passed the baton to the beloved Porsche 911. Porsche continued to deliver eye-catching style and performance to the market in the 1970s with the 914 and the flagship 928. The 1980s were another stellar decade for the company. The 959 was the first sports car to win the Paris to Dakar Rally. The automaker unveiled the 944 and the 956, the most successful racecar of all time.
In 1997, Porsche introduced the Boxster and revitalized the mystique of the 550. This was followed by the 2003 debut of Cayenne, a SUV. Although originally skeptical, car enthusiasts were delighted to discover that the Cayenne was pure Porsche in style and performance.
Porsche has the well earned reputation of producing some of the world’s best performance vehicles. The automaker’s lineup of sports cars and SUVs gives car enthusiasts an unmatched driving experience with superb handling, power and style.
