Lexus, the luxury marquee name for Toyota, was first introduced in 1989 with the debut of the LS 400. This luxury sedan was met with high praise for its ergonomically designed and well-appointed interior, engine performance, quiet ride and value. This combination is a result of the emphasis that the brand has placed on quality from its inception, a standard that the company calls “Lexus Musts.” In 1991, Lexus achieved the highest ranking from J.D. Power and Associates for initial vehicle quality and customer satisfaction, as well as becoming the number one selling imported luxury car. This quest for innovation continues with the recent incorporation of such production vehicle firsts as an eight-speed automatic transmission, an infrared pedestrian detection system, driver awareness monitoring and lane keep assist. Because of this commitment, Lexus has won 14 J.D. Power and Associates awards since 1995 along with several Consumers Digest reliability awards in the early 2000s.

Since the launch of the original Lexus LS in 1989, Lexus has added convertible, coupé, crossover and mid-sized SUV models. In 2005, an RX crossover hybrid debuted and additional hybrid models have since joined the company’s lineup. Lexus is now sold globally in more than 70 countries and has become Japan’s most popular brand of premium automobiles worldwide.
