The Model 92, the Saab’s first production car, had a smaller drag coefficient than many of today’s modern cars. Jaguar began marketing its luxury sedans in the United States during the 1950s. In the ensuing years, Jaguar introduced its well known E-type coupe and drew upon the popularity of British culture in the United States that was being spurred on by the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and other 1960s icons. In the 1970s, a Jaguar XJ12 was the fastest production car of its time because of its 12-cylinder, high performance engine. This reputation was earned from the company’s start in 1948 when Spencer and Maurice Wilkes developed a vehicle to match the U.S. Army’s World War II Jeep which they found very impressive. Latin for “I roll,” Volvo started manufacturing vehicles in Gothenburg in 1927. The company began exporting cars to the United States in the 1950s and was the first automotive manufacturer to equip vehicles with a three point seat belt. Although sales lagged in the 1990’s, Infiniti rededicated its efforts with redesigned vehicles with more power. They also introduced new models such as a luxury, compact crossover SUV. Infiniti is marketing a newly developed hybrid power train to increase fuel economy and reduce environmental impact as well as a turbo diesel engine in Europe. The design of Infiniti models places the center of the engine behind the front wheels to improve acceleration, braking and handling through a more even weigh distribution.
