Chrysler
Chrysler is an American automaker (now multinational) founded in 1925 by its namesake, Walter P. Chrysler. It has spent the better part of nearly nine decades reinventing itself and transforming the automotive industry along the way. During the 1970s, the company was on the brink of demise, possibly caused by what some suggest to be inferior quality products. Lee Iacocca came on board as CEO in the 1980s and re-energized the brand but not without controversial success.
Under Iacocca, some products soared in sales, while others took a tumble. The minivan was created, along with electronic fuel injection and digital instrumentation. However, hostile takeovers, bankruptcy and several owners are representative of the troubled history that Chrysler is known for. It is a resilient company though, remaining on track with its mission of creating properly engineered vehicles that are innovative.
The current situation for Chrysler, having recently been acquired by Fiat, an Italian car manufacturer, and having survived the economic downturn that left many companies floundering, is continuing to grow its four product lines: Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram. Auto Trends Magazine reports that Chrysler beat its automotive competition in November 2011 with sales up for all four brands under its corporate umbrella.
Chrysler is continuing to market and produce vehicles that the buying public is interested in and that meet their needs. According to its own Foundation for the Future brochure, last year Chrysler added 16 new and revamped cars to the market, becoming the initial phase of a $23 billion investment in product and manufacturing expansion aimed at rebuilding its name. The future for Chrysler Group, LLC is all about a sustainable, socially responsible business model that is both economically feasible and environmentally friendly.
