Chevrolet turned 100 years old in 2011 and continues to be an innovator in terms of safety and performance. It is a versatile brand that began in Detroit with the help of a race car driver named Louis Chevrolet and General Motors startup William C. Durant. Even though its beginnings are shaped by specialty driving situations like racing, Chevrolet has taken what it has learned in the world of speed and has long since branched out to include everyday drivers as one of its main consumer targets.

Chevrolet is known for producing strongly built, powerful, safe and affordable vehicles that lead the industry with improvements in technology. The company produces cars for every function from full-size and mid-size SUV’s, to fuel-efficient compact and crossover automobiles.

Currently, industry publications say Chevrolet is experiencing good sales volume with 70 percent of all GM cars sold being a Chevy. Accordingly, Chevrolet’s owner General Motors is sharing in this success with sales rising seven percent in November 2011. This is a far cry from where the automaker was just three short years ago. GM was thought of negatively by some for taking a bailout when the economy took a downturn in 2008. Times do not seem to be as tense now allowing GM to pay back its loan to the federal government and move forward.

Much like its signature cars, the future of Chevrolet does not seem to be slowing down any time soon. The brand is part of the country’s largest auto manufacturer, which is planning on revealing four new models in Detroit at the 2012 North American International Auto Show.
