German automobile manufacturer Audi is positioned as the luxury brand of the Volkswagen Group. The company produces a range of vehicles from the super-mini to a crossover SUV. These models are available in a variety of body styles across a wide price range. All these different vehicles are marketed under the Audi name, which is a Latin derivative of the last name of founder, August Horch. In 1932, Audi merged with other manufacturers DKW, Horch (August Horch’s original company) and Wanderer to form the company Auto Union. The company’s four ring hood emblem symbolizes this merger.

It was at this time that the Audi Front was introduced as Europe’s first car that combined front wheel drive and a six-cylinder engine. In 1994, Audi was the first mass market vehicle manufacturer to have 100% galvanized car bodies to prevent corrosion. In 1997, the Audi A8 introduced new, aluminum space frame technology. The Audi A8 is the only 12-cylinder engine car with all wheel drive. Audi’s commitment to innovation continues. The company is working with Japanese electronics firm Sanyo to spearhead the development of a hybrid electric vehicle for the Volkswagen Group.

Audi competes worldwide with manufacturing facilities in Europe, India and China.
